Aims and ambitions for Surrey Heath

  • building a sustainable Green economy which creates local jobs with local businesses
  • protecting the Green Belt and our wider countryside
  • reducing road traffic and air pollution by promoting sustainable, accessible and healthy alternatives including better public transport and provision for cycling and walking
  • defending our public services so that all local residents have a good quality of life
  • working with honesty and transparency to the highest possible standards

Despite Surrey being dominated by majority Conservative rule, the Government of the same party has savagely slashed funding such that the county cannot afford to maintain, let alone improve its social services, road maintenance, education, health and so on.

If elected to parliament I will work a lot harder than our current local MPs to expose the bad deal we getting and lobby for a better one.

Why should people vote for Green candidates - what sets the party apart?

Greens have a vision for the South East that's very different from everyone else. We need an economy that works for everyone at the local level – providing decent jobs for residents, and affordable, reliable public transport that's accessible for all. We want sound environmental policy, social justice, and high standards of transparency. Above all, we are forward thinkers and are alone in accepting that you cannot have infinite growth on finite planet.

Like everywhere else, Surrey Heath cannot continue to build houses and offices indefinitely. Our transport infrastructure can’t cope with the current situation. But in any case, if we want to leave a green and pleasant land to our kids and future generations, with a stable climate and a peaceful world, we’ve all got to go green eventually – sooner rather than later!

The good news, and contrary to what many would have you believe, a Green future does not involve hardships and sacrifices or going back to the Stone Age. It's all pure common sense with win-win policies.
